snowy branches

We got a lot of snow yesterday and woke up this morning to some beautifully covered trees in the neighborhood. I love how the powdery snow clings to the branches and how they glisten in the sunlight.

It almost makes wintertime here in New England bearable.



Almost. Now if we just didn't have to deal with the harsh winds, the frigid temps, and icy sidewalks ...

... and if it could always be this sunny the day after it snows ...

... then maybe ...

... just maybe I'd actually like winter.

I took this last Friday right after getting in the car on our way to work because I love how intricate the icy snowflakes were on the window.

And then later that same day, I took this one of the beautiful sunset from the window in our lunchroom at work. A bunch of us were in there right around 4:45 pm just gawking at the beautiful colors.

We have come a long way with technology to be able to take pretty decent pictures with our cell phones. Mine does an okay job and it's super handy because I almost always carry the phone around and sometimes I leave the camera at home. Anywho, I snapped this one this morning on my walk to work in the snow. Yes, we got even more snow today. They (the weather people on TV) say that we've already reached 40 inches of it this season which is really high for our area. Anyway, it was the you-need-an-umbrella kind of snow this morning.

I am going to be so happy when I won't have to wear my not-so-pretty-not-my-cute-pair-of-froggy boots. Seriously!

I had to do some errands during my lunch break the other day so I snapped these while walking through Harvard Square. The Bob Slate Stationery store on Mass Ave. had these really cool paper snowflakes in their window and it reminded me of the snowflake cutting contests I organized at Pioneer back in the day. Yes people, I actually coordinated such events in my workplace at one time. Crazy, no?


I think it takes a special talent to be able to make such pretty paper snowflakes. I'm sure if I really sat down to design one it would look okay, but some of these in their window really blew me away. Nice job folks!

So that's that for cell phone camera pics. Now, on to The Killers.

Ah, yes, The Killers. I really like this band. I really like their songs. We went to see them Monday night at the Aggannis Arena in Boston and it was an awesome show. They started out with songs from their newest album, Day & Age, which - truthfully? - we haven't liked as much as the other albums. But I do have to say that the songs from that album sounded much better live than on CD. Tony likes their Sam's Town album more, and I like their first album, Hot Fuss, more.

morning walk photos

My walk to work is a pretty nice one because I get to go through part of a Cambridge neighborhood where there are homes with high price tags. I snapped a couple of photos along the way this morning (click on them to see the image at full size). The first one is of a house I walk past nearly every day. I just love the row of icicles going across the edge of the roof.


I walked past this house yesterday and noticed the giganomous wreaths, so I took a photo of them today. Insanely huge, eh?

Here is one of them close up. I think it's cool how they used the citrus fruit instead of more traditional things to decorate the wreath. I wonder where one would get a wreath that big though.

And then the last three photos I would like to post are simply birds. I don't know why but lately I've had this fascination with birds. Like I'll wonder where they go when it snows. I wish I could be a bird so I could fly away to different places around the world. And poop on mean people when necessary. Anyway, it was weird because the first two flew by my head this morning and perched near by, almost as if they wanted me to take their picture. (I know, speaking of birds, my brain's going a bit coo-coo typing this entry.) I don't know what kind of bird the first one is, but the second one is a robin, and the third one is of a white pigeon.



Okay, enough bird talk. Gotta go make some cookies!

I walked through Harvard Yard this afternoon to run some errands during my lunch break and snapped this photo with my cell phone. We got lots and lots of snow, but they do a nice job of clearing the walkways for us. Definitely not as much as many of the suburbs and the Cape got, but still taller than knee high for this little person to walk through.

a very busy saturday

Whew! Saturday was a seriously jam packed day for me. It all kind of started on Friday with preparation for the blizzard that was due to hit our area around 1:00 pm. After the disaster that happened last year where people didn't get released from work until after the snow began to fall, I think a lot of businesses released employees way in advance just in case. So after we got the okay to go home at noon, I sped home to get things ready for Saturday's Design Hive show because it was happening regardless of the snow! I snapped a photo of our car on my walk to work that morning, and then took another one of Tony brushing off the car before we left on Saturday morning.

The Design Hive turned out to be a great success by the end of the day. It was pretty quiet early in the morning - probably when people were at home digging themselves out of the snow - but then it got really busy around 1:30/2:00 when people got stir crazy being cooped up in their homes. A special thank you to my friends that managed to weather the icy cold (it was like 20 degrees outside all day!) to come see me: Luisa, Liz, Lorena, Laura, Chris and Lynn, Teeru, Kate, Stephanie M., and Stefanie!! It was so good to see familiar faces there - I can't thank you all enough!

Here are photos from the show. The first one is (like the one above) of my wonderful husband waking up early with me to take me there; my booth complete with a wrinkled sign and tablecloth; Rebecca's table; Knitz for Kidz's booth with the cute little knit animal hats; Stephanie's table; Andrea's table; one of the young kids that went around selling holiday baked goods and coffee throughout the day; and Joe Fox (Val's husband) buying some cookies from another little boy. The kids were incredibly cute and polite! I wish I didn't have these stupid food allergies so that I could've eaten their yummy looking cookies and homemade empanadas!

And then right after the show we went home, ate a quick dinner, and then drove out to Harvard Square to park the car. Then we hopped on the red line to downtown Boston to meet up with Jim and Marcie to watch the Harry Connick Jr. concert at the Colonial Theatre. It was quite an amazing show!! I like how it wasn't completely just Christmas songs. They did a lot of cool, New Orleans-based songs too. Here's a little bit of the encore they performed:



He is such a talented artist and entertainer. Plus he's so darn handsome. Yum! :) Afterwards, we went around the corner to Rock Bottom for food and drinks before facing the cold weather home.

Needless to say, I slept in today. I love Sundays. :)

friday morning

We got about 8 inches of snow from Thursday's storm. These are just a couple of photos on Friday morning during my walk to work. Gotta love snow boots.

Well, they said it would be here at 1 pm today. And it was. Right on time.

This is what it looks like from inside the shop. We're closing early at 4. Thank goodness. Then I can trek home in my big snow boots through all this lovely white stuff.
